Shane Gould from English Heritage and Robert Bailey, retired Stint Measurer from Pensford Colliery guided a fascinated audience through the local mining heritage of North Somerset and in particular, life for men, women, children and horses working at Pensford Colliery which closed in 1958.
Judith Chubb Whittle who was part of a team raising funds for The Pensford, Publow and Stantons Community Trust said ”a lovely evening with the audience fascinated and intrigued by the graphic presentation of our local recent history, with some spotting relatives amongst Robert Bailey’s captivating library of photographs. It is amazing to hear from a Pensford miner and look at such recent history, yet so far removed from the lives we lead now. We all enjoyed a an excellent sausage and mash supper and spent time talking with Shane and Robert”
Judith went on to say, ‘‘the evening sold out within days of being announced, leaving some disappointed residents so we are planning to organise another evening early next year”
