Community unveils Acker Bilk memorial bench
Pensford finally unveiled their memorial bench to their famous son, Acker Bilk on 22nd September 2017. The bench, which was crafted out of granite and hardwood by local craftsman George Tyler, was the product of months of painstaking work and funded through donations from PPSCT, Pensford Miners Welfare, the Parish Council and Pensford Music Festival .
The granite used to create the legs and supports of the bench was donated by George’s father.
A crowd of villagers and Acker Bilk fans gathered for the grand unveiling which was carried out by leader of B&NES Council, Tim Warren and local ward Councillor Paul May. Following the unveiling local composer and musician Jolyon Laycock played one of Acker’s most famous pieces on the clarinet, which was a touching moment for all who had gathered.
