Christmas came early for some at the Community Trust 100 Club Annual Christmas Draw.
The eagerly awaited third 100 Club Christmas Draw took place in the merry surroundings of the Carpenters Arms at Stanton Wick. The restaurant area was full of hopeful 100 Club members and relatives eagerly hoping that Robert Bailey, our local celebrity and Pensford Colliery mine historian, acting as draw master for the evening, would select ”the right number” !
This year’s lucky first prize winner was Myra Osborne who won £2298. This came as a lovely surprise to Mrs Osborne, who is 85 and has been unwell recently and unable to attend the event but was absolutely thrilled when phoned with the news. Myra said, ”I have been delighted to be a member of the 100 Club from the beginning and support this great local charity. Even though I don’t live in the community, everyone makes me very welcome when I visit.
I am going to use the money to treat myself to a special chair that moves by remote control. A very welcome Christmas present and my thanks to everyone”.
The second prize of £1199 was won by Mike and Min Woodward of Stanton Drew…..a totally stunned Min accepted the prize from Robert Bailey.
A Booby Prize was awarded to a complete non winning number. By a twist of fate this was won by an embarrassed Sue Osborne, 100 Club Committee member who said, ” I love champagne and chocolate, so I know what I will be doing with it!”
The winnings did not stop there…. the November monthly draw also saw a first prize of £400 for Chris Dando, second and third prizes of £100 each to Derek Ezekiel and Michelle Stark.
Robert Bailey and his wife Margaret stayed to join in the humour and camaraderie of the draw, which was punctuated by trips to the bar and devouring the sustenance kindly laid on by 100 club member and landlord of the Carpenters Arms, Simon Pledge.
